“Be courageous and stand firm in Christ Lord Jesus”
Those who are in Christ, who have surrendered their wills and lives to his leadership and experienced his salvation, are now Christ’s representatives.
“Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts…” 2 Corinthians 1:21, 22 “…Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ…like men sent from God.” 2 Corinthians 2:14, 17
Like the triumphal procession of warriors returning from battle, Christ’s followers share in the rewards of battle.
Our strength and anointing come from Christ.
Jesus empowers us by his Spirit and seals us with his Spirit as part of his inheritance. We are his.
Our identity, our purpose, our mission and our eternal destiny all come from Christ. Only Jesus can tell us who we are, where we are going and how we will get there. We will follow him. Standing firm “in the Lord,” as Paul has already said in 1:27, entails us “standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel.”
Essentially, this means that we rely on what the Spirit of God has given to us for our edification in His Word, exhorting one another to do the same.
We need the help of other believers to persevere in faith, and the Spirit will surely use our gospel admonitions to ensure that His people remain committed
