Not Many People Know What MERCY OF GOD Really Is

All of us are enjoying the mercy of God on a daily basis but not all of us would admit that it is by the grace of the Lord Almighty that we are alive.  The reason could be that not many people know what mercy really is.

The Oxford dictionary defines mercy “also an act of kindness or forgiveness shown by someone who has the power to punish” The bible says ” For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God ” (Roman 3:23). God has the right and power to punish us for our sins yet he shows us mercies.

Apostle Paul made us to realise in the Book of Romans 9:18 that ” God has mercy on whom He wants to have mercy” May God have mercy on us.

As mentioned earlier that God owes us nothing and that is the more reason we should be appreciate of him for the immeasurable mercies and over flowing grace that he  is showering on us.  No one knows God better than king David.  The bible still refers to him as a man after God’s own heart after he had committed an act of adultery with Bathsheba and causing the death of her husband Uraih.  God could have punished him severally but yet, had mercy on him when he pleaded with God for mercy (Psalm 51) It does not matter what you have done you could still ask God for mercy.

The mercy of God is unlimited as stated in Psalm 103:4 that God “crowned us with loving kindness and tender mercies” God can equally show you mercy if you repent from your sins and fear the Lord. The bible says in Psalm 103:17 that ” But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him”.  We have to be submissive to God in order for us to testify to his glory. It would be right to say that the clay cannot dictate to the Potter how it should be fashioned which means the fate of the clay is in hand of Potter. Likewise, our lives are in capable hand of God.  The Lord has the right to do with us as he pleases.

Some people think that they are so independent and do not need God for anything. They have forgotten that God is the creator and that we are a part of his handwork so he has the right, the power and the authority to do whatever he likes with us. The bible says we should be humble and showing kindness to everyone so that we can receive from God our heart desires. Our forefather Abraham demonstrated this in Genesis 18:2-10 when he entertained the Angel’s of the Lord unknowingly.  God remembered the promise he had made to Abraham and Sarah about the promised child (Isaac). God is merciful and always fulfilling his promises on his children, so we must learn to be humble and show kindness to everyone so that we can receive mercy from the Alter of Grace.
