Oluwatobiloba Ayomide (Amusan) A Model For CCC Members

July 26, 2022 / Alonge Michael / CNO personality of the week / 4 Comments »

Tobi, as she is popularly called, is the last child of three siblings. Her full name is Oluwatobiloba Ayomide (Amusan). For us in CCC, a divine name like this is only given to a child born in Celestial Church.

On hearing that Tobi Amusan, who was raised in a disciplined household by two teachers, her parent, with her father always demanding that she should focus on her studies, was born and brought up in Celestial Church, it is likely not impossible, not because of her Celestial-like name but because she holds firmly to heart, two things CCC forbids in her tenet, Partying (Irinde Oru) and Drinking (Oti Mimu)

“My life centred around going to school, sleeping, eating and reading books, the same cycle that I took into my later life later,” Amusan said in an interview with worldathletics.org in 2020.

In other interviews, she says she doesn’t drink, doesn’t socialise and her life is from School to Church to Stadium and Home. She has no doubt put on display a true Celestial virtue and for that, she has become a child of light. Everyone born in the fold is.

On Monday 25th, July 2022, Tobi Amusan could not hold back her tears as the national anthem of Nigeria came to life at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, United States of America, the venue of the 18th edition of the World Athletics Championships where she held the entire world spellbound with her intimidating and breathtaking world record.

She had just won a gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles event in run-time of 12.06 seconds (wind-assisted), becoming the first Nigerian athlete to achieve the feat.

Before this finals, Amusan had set a new world record after finishing her race in 12.12 seconds in the semi-finals of the same tournament, smashing America’s Kendra Harrison’s record of 12.20 seconds set in July 2016.

In Amusan’s tears while receiving her gold medal at the Oregon podium were stories of hard work, resilience, confidence and belief since childhood.

“Like my name Oluwatobiloba (God is the greatest king), God has been my greatest motivation! I have met somebody that took a look at my height and told me I could not amount to anything as an athlete.

That is an additional motivation for me. It’s like proving to them that I can do anything that I set my mind, and God be with me, to do,” she said.

As the entire world celebrates the emergence of the new Nigerian world champion and record holder, the diminutive Ijebu Ode native is expected to harness more laurels in the coming years as she is just 25.

We at #cno are sending our congratulatory messages to her and her family who brought her up the Celestial way. May she continue to win in all she does. Amen!!!

Alleluia

Tobiloba isn’t synonymous with CCC. It’s a Yorùbá name which many non celestians bear.
